^ I will indulge myself in a short story: my bachelor’s thesis (https://guzey.com/files/bachelors-thesis/guzey-commitments.pdf) consists of a mathematical model of behavior and of analysis of this model. My thesis reviewer wrote in their review that the model was neat but all implications were trivial and so they recommended to give me a B, meaning that it would be impossible to graduate with honors. I was pissed off because I thought this was unfair and while reading my thesis later that day realized that one of the propositions in it was false. It felt very natural that the proposition should be true but it turned out that I made a subtle mistake while proving it and it was in fact false. So during my thesis presentation I pointed out the although the reviewer thought that the model was trivial, they thought that something follows from the model when in fact the opposite was the case, suggesting that the model’s implications were not that trivial after all. I ended up debating with the committee for like 10 minutes but they gave me an A in the end.
